Industrial College of the Armed Forces/Eisenhower School Graduate Salute

Every month, we shine a spotlight on the diverse and accomplished alumni of the Eisenhower School, a distinguished institution with a rich history dating back to its establishment as the Army Industrial College in 1924. Formerly known as the Industrial College of the Armed Forces from 1946 to 2012, the school has fostered the growth of military, private sector, and government civilian leaders, and we are honored to celebrate their contributions.

 

May 2023

General Laura Richardson, a four-star general in the US Army who is the commander of the United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM). She is the first woman to lead SOUTHCOM and the third woman to lead one of the U.S. military’s 11 unified combatant commands. A native of Colorado, Gen Richardson has served our country for over 35 years throughout the U.S., including at the White House, Congress, and the Pentagon, as well as serving combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. 

 

 

 

June 2023

Alan Estevez, Under Secretary, U.S. Department of Commerce. A 1995 graduate, he leads the Bureau of Industry and Security-U.S. Department of Commerce, advancing U.S. nationalsecurity, foreignpolicy, and economic objectives, while promoting U.S. strategic technology leadership. Mr. Estevez served 35+ years at the United States Department of Defense, most recently as Principal Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Acquisition, Technology & Logistics). He has received many honors, including three DoD Distinguished Public Service Medals, the Distinguished Civilian Service Medal, two Presidential Rank Awards, and the Service to America (SAMMIE) for National Security.

Edgars Rinkevics, a 2000 graduate and member of the International Fellows Program, NDU International Hall of Fame, who was elected President of Latvia a few weeks ago. President-Elect Rinkevics has served as the Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs since 2011. Prior to that, he was Head of the Chancery of the President of Latvia from 2008-2011. He also served as State Secretary in the Ministry of Defense from 1997-2008. He began his career as a journalist for Latvian Radio covering foreign policy and international relations. Latvia regained its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. This Friday, President-Elect Rinkevics will be sworn in as Latvia’s 11th head of state.

Private Sector Fellow Chet Huber, who after graduating from ICAF in 1995 went on to create OnStar for General Motors, leading that program for 14 years as President and CEO. Currently a senior lecturer at Harvard Business School, Mr. Huber has served on the Board of Directors for SiriusXM, been appointed to Federal Advisory Committees at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and holds multiple U.S. patents in the application of wireless technology to vehicle systems.

Lieutenant general Telita Crosland, Director of the Defense Health Agency (DHA). A 2010 graduate, she entered the US Army as a Medical Corps Officer over 25 years ago. In addition to her Doctor of Medicine, she also holds a Master of Public Health from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences and a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy from the Eisenhower School. Her awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Legion of Merit with two oak leaf clusters; Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Staff Badge and the Parachutist’s Badge. She is also a member of the Order of Military Medical Merit. Prior to her appointment as DHA Director, Lt. Gen. Crosland most recently served as the Army Deputy Surgeon General and Deputy Commanding General (Operations) of MEDCOM.

Major General Richard E. Angle, an Eisenhower School distinguished graduate of the Class of 2014, recently served as the Commanding General for the 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne) - US Army, holding the rank of a two-star Army General. His illustrious career is a testament to his dedication and outstanding leadership within the US Army. Throughout his distinguished service, Major General Angle has held a series of vital assignments, including roles as a military assistant to the Secretary of the Army, Chief of Staff for the United States Army Special Operations Command, Deputy Commanding General for Operations at U.S. Army Cyber Command, and Deputy Commanding General for Joint Special Operations Command. Major General Angle's commitment to duty is further exemplified by his participation in contingency and combat operations across the globe, including Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, the Horn of Africa, and the Philippines.

Admiral Linda Fagan Eisenhower School 2008 graduate. With an impressive 37 years of dedicated service, Admiral Fagan currently serves as the first woman Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard. In her role, she oversees all global Coast Guard operations and leads an impressive team of 42,000 activeduty, 7,000 reserve, and 8,700 civilian personnel, in addition to 21,000 US Coast Guard Auxiliary volunteers. Admiral Fagan's career spans all seven continents, and she holds the distinction of being the longest-serving active-duty Marine Safety Officer and the Coast Guard’s first-ever Gold Ancient Trident award winner.

Colonel J. P. McDonough 2014 graduate. Currently serving as Commandant of the United States Naval Academy, Colonel McDonough brings a wealth of leadership and operational excellence to this prestigious role. He has held various key positions throughout his military career, including platoon commander, Kilo Battery Commander, and battalion operations officer. His operational assignments include significant roles in support of Operations Swift and Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, demonstrating his commitment to service in challenging environments. His dedication and leadership have earned him numerous accolades, including the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, and the Meritorious Service Medal. We salute Colonel McDonough for his outstanding contributions to our US Navy and USMC, and we are proud to have him as an alumnus of the Eisenhower School.
