SSA Russell L. Thomas

FBI Chair/Assistant Professor

Supervisory Special Agent Russell serves as the Eisenhower School FBI Chair. Russell Thomas is a native of Wilmington, DE. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps from U.S. Naval Academy in 2002, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in History. He has combat deployments to Iraq (2004) and Afghanistan (2011). Russell Thomas holds the additional Military Occupational Specialties of Civil Affairs Officer and Marine Corps Advisor. Russell Thomas continues to serve in the United States Marine Corps reserve and has experience working in joint, interagency, and multinational environments focusing on security cooperation and civil military operations.

In 2009, Russell Thomas began service with the Federal Bureau of Investigations, specializing in Counter-Terrorism investigations. As a Special Agent, Russell Thomas served on the Washington Field Office Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team. In 2017 Russell Thomas transferred to Quantico, VA and served as member of the FBI’s National Tactical Team.

Supervisory Special Agent Thomas is a graduate of the National War College. His personal decorations include the Purple Heart, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two Gold Stars and combat “V” device, and the Combat Action Ribbon. His hobbies include outdoor activities and athletics. He is married and has two teenage daughter
