Col Thomas McCarthy, PhD, USAF

Military Instructor

Colonel Thomas McCarthy is an Associate Professor of Resources and Strategy at the Eisenhower School, National Defense University. Col McCarthy teaches courses on economics, industry analysis, and industry studies. In 2012 he earned a PhD in security studies and political economy from The Fletcher School, Tufts University.

Commissioned from the USAF Academy in 1990, he is a helicopter pilot with over 2000 hours in special operations and rescue aircraft. Col McCarthy’s non-flying tours include; two years as the Presidents Military Aide, Commander School of Advanced Air and Space Studies, Commander AFROTC Det 009 at Yale University, Director USAF Center for Strategy and Technology, instructing as a professor at Air War College, interning for the Deputy Secretary of Defense, and serving on the Air Staff‘s Strategy Think Tank, the “Skunk Works.
