William Soderberg was commissioned through Army ROTC as a second lieutenant in May 1981 after graduating from Northern Illinois University.  He served as an Ordnance officer from 1981 to 1985 at Fort Riley, Kansas and in West Germany, before transferring to the Military Intelligence Corps.  He later served at Fort Campbell, KY as the S-2 of the 3rd Brigade of the 101st Airborne Division in Saudi Arabia and Iraq for Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.

Following completion of a master’s degree in journalism from Wheaton College in 1994, he began teaching at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. In July 1996 he became the Managing Editor at Moody Press. In 2005 Mr. Soderberg joined the FBI as a senior intelligence analyst, serving first in the WMD Directorate and then the Directorate of Intelligence as unit chief for the Production Services Unit and later the Asia Global Intelligence Unit. He was selected as the FBI Chair at Marine Corps University in August 2015. He completed a master’s degree in Biblical and Theological Studies at Dallas Theological Seminary in 2018. He is married, has two married daughters and three grandchildren.

During his 19 years in the Army Reserve, COL Soderberg served in a variety of command and staff positions.  In November 2001, his unit, the 3415th Military Intelligence Detachment was mobilized to support the Global War on Terror for the Defense Intelligence Agency.  He commanded the 3rd Brigade of the 100th Division in Minneapolis, MN, before becoming the Chief of Staff, and then Assistant Division Commander of the 95th Division in Oklahoma City, OK.  In October 2010 COL Soderberg became the Acting Division Commander of the 95th Division. He retired from the Army Reserve in June 2011.

COL Soderberg is a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College and the Army War College.  His decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Reserve Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Southwest Asia Campaign Medal, the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia) and the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait).
