Mr. Stephen Gonyea

Stephen (Steve) Gonyea is a highly decorated, career Foreign Service Officer with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Prior to joining the faculty at the Eisenhower School, he was the acting director/deputy director of USAID’s Office of Civilian-Military Cooperation (CMC) in Washington, DC from 2017 to 2022. CMC coordinates the USAID teams at six Combatant Commands and the Pentagon, manages nearly 100 outreach events a year with the DoD, and is responsible for sending USAID students and faculty to the six war colleges. Mr. Gonyea has over 22 years overseas conflict and post conflict experience with USAID as an Economic Growth office director in Ukraine (2013-2017), Nicaragua (2011-2013), Jordan (2007-2011), Afghanistan (2005-2007) and Macedonia (1997-2005). He was a Peace Corps volunteer in Wroclaw, Poland (1992-1994) and worked with Peace Corps as a small business trainer in Slovakia in 1995. He has an MBA from the University of Tampa and an undergraduate degree in International Business/Finance with a minor in International Economics from Florida State University. Steve is married with two grown boys.
