Kent May joined the Foreign Service in 1998. He has served overseas in Chennai, Ho Chi Minh City, Sydney, Johannesburg, and Ciudad Juarez. In Washington, DC, Kent served in the Executive Secretariat and in the Bureaus of Consular Affairs and African Affairs. Kent also served as Director of the Los Angeles Passport Agency. He is the recipient of the 2023 Arnold L. Raphel Memorial Award.
He holds a Master of Science from the National Defense University's Eisenhower School and is a graduate of the College of William and Mary.
