CAPT Marcus Canady graduated from the US Coast Guard Academy in 2000 with a degree in Operations Research and was assigned to the CGC LEGARE in Portsmouth, VA as a Deck Watch Officer. After two years, CAPT Canady was selected for Naval Flight Training in Pensacola, FL and successfully earned his “Wings of Gold” in 2003. For the next eight years, he served as a MH-65 pilot in Miami and Jacksonville, FL, conducting counter-drug and search and rescue missions in the Strait of Florida and the maritime drug traffic zone. Notably, CAPT Canady participated in life-saving missions during Hurricane Katrina and executed airborne use of force to disable high speed drug trafficking vessels. After completing an MBA program at Syracuse University in 2012, he served as a budget analyst at Coast Guard Headquarters and served as the Military Aide to the Commandant in 2014. Returning to flight duties, CAPT Canady was assigned as the Flight Operations Officer for Sector Corpus Christi in 2016 and then served as the Commanding Officer of Air Station Houston, TX in 2019. In 2021, he attended the National War College and earned a master’s degree in national strategic studies. After graduation, CAPT Canady was assigned to Coast Guard Headquarters as the Executive Assistant to the Office of Budget Resources. In 2024, CAPT Canady was selected to serve as the Coast Guard Chair at the National Defense University’s Eisenhower School. CAPT Canady is married to Angelisse Canady and have three children together; Marlisse Corene, Major Allen, and Maverick Maliyah.
