Mr. Dale N. Tasharski

Dale Tasharski is the U.S. Department of Commerce faculty chair and instructor at the Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Management at the National Defense University (NDU) in Washington, DC. Dale is a career Senior Foreign Service Officer with the personal rank of Minister-Counselor and a lifetime of experience in international trade helping U.S. companies do business around the world. He joined the NDU faculty from his recent position as Deputy Director General of Global Markets and the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service at the Commerce Department’s International Trade Administration.

While Deputy Director General, Dale also served an extended period as Acting Assistant Secretary and Director General for Global Markets at Commerce. Prior to that he was Deputy Assistant Secretary for Europe and Eurasia. His assignments overseas included positions as Minister-Counselor for Commercial Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Germany, where he also served as Regional Senior Commercial Officer for Central Europe, and Commercial Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in India. Prior to that he was Senior Commercial Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Ireland, Senior Advisor for Career Development and Assignments in Washington, and a Commercial Officer at the U.S. Embassies in Japan and Poland. Dale began his career as an International Trade Specialist in the Commerce Department's field offices in Tennessee and North Carolina, where he joined as an intern in 1985.

Dale was born and raised near Chicago, Illinois. He received his bachelor’s degree with highest honors in international studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and his master's in public and international affairs, with concentrations in Soviet studies and international security studies, from the University of Pittsburgh.
