LtCol Douglas Luccio, USMC

Military Instructor

Lieutenant Colonel Luccio was commissioned 7 Jan 1994 through the USMC Platoon Leaders Corps (PLC) program and was subsequently designated as a Field Artillery Officer.  Assigned to 2nd Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, Camp Lejeune NC he served as a Forward Observer (FO), Fire Direction Officer (FDO), Guns Platoon Commander and Assistant Battalion Operations Officer.

Assigned to 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, Special Operations Capable (MEU SOC) he completed two Landing Force 6th Fleet (LF6F) deployments (Mediterranean/Adriatic/Red Seas); as S2/S3 Targeting Information Officer (TIO) and as Fire Support Officer (FSO)/ Assistant MEU, S-3 Operations Officer participating OPERATIONS BALKAN CALM, ALBANIA SECURITY MISSION, JOINT FORGE and AUTUMN SHELTER.

LtCol Luccio was next assigned to 2nd Battalion 11th Marines, Camp Pendleton CA where he commanded Battery G and served as Battalion S-4, Logistics and S-3, Operations Officers.  He deployed with 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, 31st MEU (SOC) to the Pacific as Battalion Landing Team (BLT) Noncombatant Evacuation Operations (NEO) Security Force Commander and Battery Commander.

LtCol Luccio deployed to OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM II with 1st Marine Division, G-3, where he served as Assistant Division Fire Support Coordinator during combat operations. (Ramadi)

LtCol Luccio was next assigned to Officers Candidates School, in Quantico Virginia where he served as training Company Commander, battalion logistics (S4) and operations (S3) officer.

Next assigned to 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO), LtCol Luccio commanded an ANGLICO Brigade platoon and served at the S-3, Operations Officer.  He deployed in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM 08 as a Port of Entry Transition Team (POETT) Leader where he was the senior military advisor to an Iraqi Police Brigadier General and 750-man Iraqi/Syria border force.

LtCol Luccio completed a joint tour with US Special Operations Command, Tampa FL, where he served as a J8-Requirements Officer and Strategic planner with the Commanders Action Group (CAG).  While in the USSOCOM CAG, he facilitated Combatant Commander speeches, professional writing, and strategic engagement.

LtCol Luccio was assigned to I Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF) where he deployed as a Security Force Assistance Advisor Team (SFAAT) leader, supporting 1/215 Afghan National Army Brigade in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM 13.1/13.2. (Helmand)  He subsequently was assigned as the G-3 Current Operations Officer for 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade (MEB)/ I MEF.

At Joint Forces Staff College JFSC he was a Military Faculty / Assistant Professor, where he instructed JPME II Curriculum as part of the Joint Combined Warfighting School (JCWS).  He served as the lead for the Gettysburg and Command and Control (C2) Electives and was the Marine Chair at JFSC.  He also served as the Managing Director for the Military Fellows Program at William & Mary College’s Project for International Peace & Security (PIPS).  PIPS is an undergraduate think tank for national security studies, hosted by the International Relations Department.  The Scholars are mentored in the development of a national security research.

LtCol Luccio has completed the Marine Corps Amphibious Warfare School and Command and Staff College.  He has additional MOS specialties as a JTAC, Military Advisor and JQO.  He is a Black-Belt in Marine Corps Martial Arts and has novice language skills in French, Arabic and Dari/Farsi.  His research paper at Air War College “the Godfather Doctrine” evaluated USMC military advisor training effectiveness. He also Published a chapter in the book Mission Command II: the Who, What, Where, When, Why (Mission Command in a Joint Environment).  He holds a BS in Speech Communications (Oregon State University), Executive Masters in Leadership (Georgetown) and MA in National Strategy (Air War College, Air University).  He is currently a Doctoral candidate at the George Washington University (EdD, Human Organizational Learning and Leadership)
