CAPT Renee Squier, USN

Captain Renee Squier, a native of Michigan, graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Boston University in 1991. She began her career as a Surface Warfare Officer, serving on USS Mars (AFS1) as the Combat Information Center Officer and USS Niagara Falls (AFS3) as the Boilers Officer. She was one of the first women stationed on a combatant following the repeal of the combat exclusion law for women on surface ships, serving as the Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer on USS Paul F Foster (DD964). She was the Protocol Officer for Commander, Naval Surface Forces Pacific, and she also served as the Operations Officer for Maritime Prepositioning Ships Squadron Three, and as the Civil Military Affairs officer for Commander, Naval Forces Marianas.

Captain Squier became a Human Resources Officer in 2001, and has served as the department head for enlisted recruiting in Indianapolis, Ind., the Commander of the Military Entrance Processing Station in Springfield, Mass., and as the Recruiting Liaison Officer to the OPNAV staff. From 2010-2013 she served as the Deputy and then the Head of Enlisted Plans and Policy on the OPNAV staff, responsible for accession, retention, and promotion planning and execution for the entire active and reserve Navy enlisted force. From 2014-2015, she was the Head of Diversity and Inclusion for the Navy. She served as the Chief of Staff and Commanding Officer of troops for Naval Sea Systems Command from 2015-2017.  CAPT Squier served as the Executive Assistant and Director of Commander’s Action Group for the Chief of Naval Personnel, OPNAV N1. Most recently she served as the Executive Officer to the President of National Defense University, and is now serving on the faculty of the Eisenhower School as the  Chair of the Leadership Department.

Captain Squier is a Senior Professional in Human Resources, and holds master’s degrees in Human Resources Management from Troy University and National Resource Strategy from the Dwight D. Eisenhower School at National Defense University. CAPT Squier is an MIT Seminar XXI fellow, and she also holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Northcentral University where her dissertation was recognized as the Dissertation of the Year from her graduating class.

Captain Squier is a Joint Qualified Officer, and is entitled to wear the Legion of Merit (four awards), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and other various personal, unit and service awards.
