CAPT Michael A. Kidd, USN

Military Instructor

Currently supporting the Eisenhower School as a military instructor, CAPT Kidd is a native of Erie PA. He attended Arizona State University on a swimming scholarship, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and a Master of Public Administration, focusing on the application of GIS databases. Upon graduation in 1996, he worked as a lobbyist and political aide in Arizona until 2000, where he represented production agriculture, community colleges, and a Phoenix City Councilman. Following that, he was a web programmer and faculty member at The Mercersburg Academy, a boarding school in Pennsylvania.

He was commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy Supply Corps through Officer Candidate School in 2004. After completing Supply Corps School, CAPT Kidd served tours as: Supply Officer, USS Scranton (SSN 756); Obsolescence Manager at PEO Carriers; Basing Plans Officer, US Forces, Iraq; Stock Control Officer, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69); Logistic Plans Officer, US Fleet Forces Command; PAL/ASUPPO USS George Washington (CVN 73); Deputy Navy National Account Manager, DLA Headquarters; Chief of Logistics Plans and Programs at Naval Forces Europe and Africa, and US 6th Fleet; and most recently, NATO Joint Logistics Support Group Naples. He holds an MBA from the University of Maryland, a graduate certificate in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School and is a graduate of the Joint Forces Staff College JPME Phase 2 program. He has authored 23 professional publications in the Small Wars Journal, Joint Forces Quarterly, Naval Institute Blog, Proceedings, Naval Engineers Journal, Supply Corps Newsletter, Swim Australia Journal, NISCA Journal, Swimming World Magazine, and a book chapter on targeted email marketing.

CAPT Kidd’s military awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (3), Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5), Joint Achievement Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He holds subspecialty codes in Supply Distribution, Supply Chain Management, Operations Research, and two DAWIA Level 2 certifications. He is fully Joint and Acquisition Corps Qualified, a qualified Submarine Supply Corps Warfare Officer, Surface Warfare Supply Corps Officer and Naval Aviation Supply Officer. He is married to Susan Herrington and has three children.
