Andrea Susana Martinez Donnally began her federal government career in 1998 at the Department of Commerce. She joined the United States Foreign Service in March 2004, and over her career she has served in U.S. Missions to Colombia, Iraq, Tunisia, India, Lesotho, and Côte d'Ivoire. In her last assignment, she led the Office of Analysis for Terrorism, Narcotics, and Crime in the Bureau of Intelligence and Research Bureau as a deputy director. She is currently on detail to the National Defense University, Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy as a visiting professor.
Andrea’s exemplary service earned her numerous awards from both the Departments of State and Commerce. In December 2023, the Ivorian government awarded her the Médaille d’Honneur de la Police Nationale avec Palme (National Police Medal of Honor with Palm) in recognition of her efforts to strengthen bilateral security cooperation. In 2007, the United States Army awarded her the Army Achievement Medal for a remove/replace campaign designed to degrade and reverse youth recruitment by anti-government militias. Andrea's commitment to service extends beyond her official duties. She serves on the executive board of the McLean Youth Soccer Association, she coaches a U9 girls soccer team, and she is an unfailing champion of collaboration and mentorship at every level.
A Maryland native, Andrea, earned her B.A. from Mount Vernon Women's College in Washington, D.C., and later moved to Texas to complete a master's in business administration at Texas A&M's Mays School of Business. Her Argentine parents used Spanish and English in the home. Over the course of her career, she mastered French, learned Kiswahili, and can navigate well in Portuguese.
