Col Dory Leigh Hasson, USAF

NRS Department Chair/ Assistant Professor

Colonel D. Leigh Hasson, USAF, serves as Department Chair and Assistant Professor at the Dwight D. Eisenhower School, National Defense University, Fort McNair, Washington D.C.

Prior to her current assignment, she served on the Joint Staff J3 as an Operations Officer. She has served as an Executive Officer on the Air Staff and a US Central Command and US Joint Forces Command staff officer. She has commanded at the squadron level, has Capitol Hill experience, and has served as a Fellow at The Washington Institute for Near East Policy. Colonel Hasson holds graduate degrees from the Marine Corps War College in Quantico, VA, and the University of Oklahoma. She is currently an international relations doctoral candidate at Salve Regina University.

Colonel Hasson has operational flying experience in Operations NORTHERN WATCH, SOUTHERN WATCH, ENDURING FREEDOM, and IRAQI FREEDOM in the E-3 AWACS and E-8 Joint STARS aircraft. She has accumulated 3,000 flight hours, with 1,000 of them combat hours. Her nonflying deployments include the establishment of the International Security Assistance Force Joint Command (IJC) multi-national Headquarters in Kabul, Afghanistan and she has deployed to provide Humanitarian Assistance to Pakistan.

Colonel Hasson is married to David Poffenbarger and they are blessed with two children, Alexis and Samuel.
